Dead Sea Scrolls



Sunday evening, 5:45 Israel/9:45am Minnesota

Today, a chance to go to the northern shores of the Dead Sea and the community of Qumram. In first centry A.D., contemplative Jews lived here (possibly including John the Baptist). They distanced themselves from the world of Jerusalem, choosing to stay out here in the desert in relative solitude, praying and writing. They did a lot of the latter, and left many scrolls containing a fascinating historical record in earthen jars, to be discovered only a few decades ago by a shepherd boy wandering around looking for a goat in this desert area.
