Twice on the way, a four person unit of of orange-clad aid workers shouted to clear the street as they ran past carrying stretchers with apparently injured demonstrators on them, cominig from the direction of the Damascus Gate. One man had a little blood on him, the other person, a woman, seemed, fine, and I even saw her sit up as they rushed her by some Israeli soldiers and attempt to spit on them.
A large group of Palestinian Arabs had gathered up at the Gate when I arrived, some in groups on the tiered steps doing organized chants, and many others just milling about in a large crowds. They were matched almost one-to-one by Israeli soldiers who were out en masse in anticipation of any disturbances, Again, there were some skirmishes later up on the top of the road above the gate, where I saw soldier drag a few people off and arrest them, but no major violence. There were a number of soldiers on horses, on roofs, and hundreds of them ringing the plaza. It was like a movie.
Only in Israel.
